Poem written by Olie Heflin ‘the year it rained’

(can be sung to a ’summer camp tune’)

Get up kids, it’s time for breakfast, put your clothes on, don’t delay.

Comb your hair & make your cots up, come to breakfast right away.

Stand in line, but don’t be talking, that’s more noise than we can stand.

Eat your food now, stop a minute, go outside and wash your hands.

Scrape your plates out, dunk your silver, go outside & do your chores.

Check the tent, get your belongings, pick up everything that’s yours.

Don’t play ping-pong, it’s too early, don’t play baseball, it’s too hot.

Time for class now, blow that whistle.  Get up, don’t sit on that cot.

Class time’s over, time to eat, you’ve just got time to get a drink.

Get in line and stop that talking, nows the time for you to think.

Must remember what we’ve taught you, do is do and re is re,

Must not talk, and stop complaining, don’t push in the line that way.

Eat your lunch, and go to rest now, there that whistle is again,

Rush to class, like you’re not tired, remember, wear a great big grin.

Sing, Sing, Sing, and listen listen, sit up straight so you’ll sound good,

I just told you, hold that book up, you don’t listen like you should.

Supper’s here and you are dragging, but it must not show at all,

Must be kind to all the children, please keep clean, pick up that ball.

Don’t waste cups, and don’t throw trash, or any paper on the ground,

Once again it’s time for class, and there’s that whistle, Go Sit Down.

Good night kids, class day’s over, we’re so glad you’re not worn out,

Hurry now, no time to visit, soon the lights will all be out.

Comb your hair, and put your things up, don’t just drop them anywhere,

Time for taps now, stop your talking.  Please don’t whisper over there!
